Yet Another Pivot

After 8 months of pitching Educational Email Courses to folks in the craft niche, I decided to pivot. I’ve had time to learn a lot about the niche, the educators, the customers they serve. With the steadily worsening economic conditions, it became clear that an EEC is not what these businesses can afford at this time. While I could have pivoted to offering newsletter services, I realized that the main driver behind me trying to start a business was a concern about my finances.

As a knitter, I know that most knitters are pulling back from buying yarn as tariffs and shipping costs are making yarn more expensive. Most businesses in this niche are trying to engage knitters in online or in person communities, offering courses that help them use their yarn stash. The advantage of a community is that an already engaged group of crafters are more likely to buy crafting materials from someone they know.

I also realized that I didn’t need to keep working😊. I could just retire and focus on writing, reading and enjoying the rest of my life.

Reading

The past few months have been great for reading. My goal this month was to read in genres that I hadn’t read before. Over the past three months I’ve read a few Thrillers.

        • I hated the character so much I kept reading to find out how he was arrested and sent to Israel for trial. As I was reading it became clearer that we live in the same kind of absurd world with people who have as Howard put it, “a mind which might be likened unto a system of gears whose teeth have been filed off at random….The missing teeth, of course are simple, obvious truths, truths available and comprehensible even to ten-year-olds, in some cases.”

Exercising

Four Days a Week

  • My workouts are the same set of exercises I’ve been doing
    • Weights, Bodyweight, Yoga, Spinning, Dancing, Cardio, Qi Gong, Pilates
    • I signed up for a Gym to include workouts with machines and swim in the pool
  • I signed up for Les Mills On Demand. They have great Yoga, Pilates, Core, Dance and Cardio workouts.

Learning

My focus this quarter:

I’m trying to improve my Japanese reading

  • With WaniKani help – I’m fighting to get through the last 5 kanji on LEVEL 13!!!
  • Makoto Plus has a monthly mag and an app to help with reading
  • Reading Manga

Socials

Knitting/ Crochet

As usual, I have multiple projects going at the same time.

I finished the Fiar Shawl. It is gorgeous. I’ll block this month for this winter. https://ravel.me/remikit/fs

I found a book that teaches you how to knit socks flat and cast on Tiger Socks using this method. This might be the only way I’ll ever knit socks as I hate using doublepointed needles and I am not fond of trying to use Magic Loop.

I picked up Snazzy Cowl and figured out why I couldn’t get it going a few years ago – and have restarted it.

I am also working on Renew – another super long shawl with the most squishy yarn. A joy to knit. Not sure I’ll ever wear it. I really should stop knitting shawls.

I also started working on Brioche Knit. I can get the Brioche fabric and texture, but increasing on every right side still loses me so the edges of my Brioche Boomerang look a little weird.

Continuing to work on another sweater – the Bere by Stolen Stitches. Lots of cables…lots of unraveling and reworking rows…

I’ve also started the Galway Blanket.

Writing

My focus this quarter:

  • I have enough stories to put into a collection. Currently suffering through the revision process, but I’ll probably release them each separately first.
  • Study writers I admire
  • Practice writing
  • I’ve published a short story – The Puzzle Box
